Fresh blood in the financial world: The Student Fund’s new leadership has been elected!

Sisukord

An entry was made in the history books

TalTech Student Fund, unique in Estonia and the Nordics, was founded in 2023 on the initiative of members of the School of Economics Student Council. Behind its creation was the desire to offer students a unique opportunity to dive into the real world of investing and develop their knowledge and skills on a practical level. The organisation’s members actively engage in market analyses, explore potential investment opportunities, and make strategic decisions for portfolio management. The Student Fund’s goal is to provide members with practical experience and real responsibility in the financial world.

The end of the school year brought a significant change in the organisation’s board. Board members who had actively contributed since the Student Fund’s early days now passed the baton to a fresh new team, to focus on new challenges themselves.

This has been an incredibly powerful journey with the best team in the world. I wish the new board success in achieving our shared goal of taking the Student Fund and financial literacy to an even more powerful level.

comments on passing the baton to the next team, outgoing chairperson Karoliina Konno.

The previous board included Karoliina Konno (chairperson), Ivar Palk (HR manager), Kätliin Gertrud Vilbo (marketing manager), Mihkel Külm (market strategy manager), Mia Maria Grepp (communications manager), and Olev Piirisild (partnerships manager – continuing with the new board). Their official term ends one month after the new board is elected.

New board members of TalTech Student Fund

Chairperson – Alver Järv

HR Manager – Katriin Saarep

Becoming the chairperson of the Student Fund is a great honour and a sign of trust for me. I take my role seriously, to bring investment education to every student. For this, we will also thoroughly revamp the organisation’s onboarding programme. Together with my strong team, we are committed to raising the Student Fund’s visibility and delivering meaningful events, so we can reach new heights together!

I see the role of HR manager as an opportunity to create a structure and a family where people can grow not only in knowledge, but also in confidence and teamwork skills. I want to contribute to making the onboarding of new members smooth and warm, so that our teamwork is supportive and honest, and that every member feels that their contribution has meaning – even when they don’t immediately notice it themselves.

Marketing Manager – Laura Valdisoo

Market Strategy Manager – Anders Brandmeister

Becoming the marketing manager means a great deal to me and I am grateful for this opportunity. Building on the strong marketing that already exists, I want to place even more emphasis on the Student Fund’s community and the enthusiasm of its members by creating high-quality photos and videos. My goal is to grow the Student Fund’s visibility – not only at TalTech but also at other universities and high schools. The plan is also to build a small marketing team.

Joining the board and the mandate given by the members are very meaningful to me. I want to make the most of this opportunity and contribute to the development of the Student Fund. My goal is to continue the effective work on market strategy and make the investment processes more efficient and transparent. I consider my most important task to be developing a clear and functional investment strategy that would lay the foundation for the Student Fund’s long-term growth and sustainability.

Communications Manager – Marten Maalt

Partnerships Manager – Olev Piirisild (continuing from the previous board)

On the Student Fund board, I want to give momentum to our own family, of course, but I also want to strengthen the community of young investors across Estonia. Not just an organisation for TalTech students, but a place where young people from Tartu, Pärnu and Paide can also share thoughts, experiences and even risks – growing together is more exciting.

The first year on the board gave me a great deal of new knowledge on how to better approach things in my field. With the new board, the plan is to kick it into second gear and bring even better ideas to life, both in terms of the Student Fund’s partners and public events.

What’s next for the Student Fund?

The new board is committed to the Student Fund’s core values – transparency, inclusivity and shared growth. The Student Fund’s activities continue to be focused on advancing investment education and growing the value of the fund’s assets. While specific discussions and major strategy meetings are still ahead, the new board already has a stack of exciting ideas on how to take the Student Fund to the next level – and these plans are truly big!
